Update LAP 11-11-2011

phoca thumb_l_017On October 3rd 2011 was the first day of school for 70 children (38 girls and 32 boys). They have classes from 7:30 to 12:30, then from 3:00 to 5:30 Monday to Friday and in the morning on Saturday.

Thanks to an excellent work from our director, we have been able to get the official authorisation of opening of the LAP from the Secondary Education Ministry.

Out of the 70 children, 51 have a tutor since the school is too far from their own village. After a few days, the director realised that the children had a problem to stay awake after 10 AM. He found out that only one of the 70 kids had breakfast. The children saying with tutors have to cook their own food and they did not take time to do so or they did not have any food to prepare. We have decided to give the children a 1/3 of a baguette with blue band. This really help the children.

End of October we had the first parents meeting. There were 58 parents present, some had done 55 km to come to the meeting. From the remarks of the parents it shows that the children are really motivated to go to school. Each morning they are the first one to be up, and they prepare themselves to go school without any push of the parents. In addition when they are coming home around 6PM they wash and immediately start to study. Other children from the family going to primary schools or other schools have no choice but to study also.

As you have seen on the pictures of the children, boys and girls come completely shaved to the school. They had to ask girls to wear earrings to distinguish them from the boys. Parents find this a very good idea because it is less money to pay for hair dressing.

The school has 2 permanent teachers and 5 temporary ones. We have built so far the house for the director and one house with 4 bedrooms for the temporary teachers.

The children have already passed their first tests. Results should be there in a week.
