Training for teachers
Goal of the project
To improve the quality of the teaching in primary schools.
Where
For all teachers in the 9 villages where we are active.
Description of the project
Due to the difficult living and working conditions and the lack of incentives from the Education Ministry, teachers assigned in remote villages are often the new ones or the older ones that nobody want.
Training to be a teacher has also been downgraded. It was 2 years and it is now only one year.
This brings:
- Unmotivated teachers in remote villages
- Difficulty for the young teachers to work with multi ethnical class and sometimes multi grade class
- Teachers very often not present
The main consequence is a very bad education for the children, a very high abandon rate of the children as well as a bad image of the school for the parents who then do not send their children to school.
This project consists in providing additional training to the teachers. This will be done on site during the school year in March / April of the school year. GREF, a retired teachers association from France is providing the training. They are volunteers and ask only the payment of the flight to Burkina Faso, accommodation and transport to the villages as well as material needed fro the training.
Incentives for the teachers will be:
- Teachers will do a better job and it will be easier to do it
- Based on results we will create an incentive program with gift in kind
The local inspectors of the primary schools have asked us to help them with this training. This insures that they will appoint coordinator at their level and that the program will continued.
Since we are not active in all schools covered by the inspections, we have accepted to include a general training for all teachers in a special training so that all schools are covered by the program.
The program of the training will be over 2 months: one week of preparation, 3 days in each of the 9 villages where we are active, 2 days general training, one week work with the appointed coordinators from the 2 inspections covering our villages.
Results expected
- Motivated teachers
- Children can read latest by end of second year in primary school
